For the past several years, the Dragon Backers have awarded a $250 college scholarship to both one senior girl and one senior boy.  Students interested in receiving the scholarships must first fill out an application.  Last year’s winners were Paige Wedel and Matt Pjesky.  Congratulations to Paige and Matt!

The Dragon Backers also donated up to $50 each to support the volleyball team, football team, cross country team, boys and girls basketball teams, baseball team, track team,  band, and the after-prom committee. These funds are available to all sports and extracurricular activities.  

We contributed to Senior Parent Night for all sports.  This included paying for flowers and pictures.

We provided FREE meals to our HHS athletes at Big Blue Night and the Conrad Nightingale track meet.

We promoted Dragon Pride by giving away FREE pom poms at home football games, FREE Dragon Wear at a home basketball game, FREE plastic basketballs at several home basketball games and promoted “Donuts for Dragons” by giving away FREE Krispy Kreme Doughnuts after another home football game.

Our most visible example of promoting Halstead and Dragon Pride is the Dragon sign that we put up just outside of Riverside Park on Hertzler Road.  This accomplishment was done in conjunction with the Halstead Chamber of Commerce and the city of Halstead. This has been an ongoing project for the past several years and to date we have spent approximately $2,700. We also received $1,500 in financial assistance from the Chamber of Commerce. We also have plans for future improvements for the sign.  A special thank you goes to Marla Kaufman for keeping the landscaping/flowers looking so nice this past year.  

In June of 2007, we donated $2,000 to help the district upgrade the sound system in the main high school gym.  

In July of 2008, we donated $800 for improvements to the high school weight room and our major contribution of $1,500 was made to the high school for the new “Hall of Fame” that is being created at the high school.  This is an ongoing project that will include the installation of all new trophy cases as well as plaques to be displayed on the wall in the “Hall of Fame” for each new inductee for years to come.  We will also be sponsoring a banquet in honor of each year’s new inductees.
